What is Phlebotomy?
Phlebotomy, also known as "bloodletting," is the process of drawing blood from patients for medical purposes, including clinical testing, transfusions, donations, and research. Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals trained in venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood.
Phlebotomists work in various settings, such as clinical laboratories, hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, doctor's offices, and blood donation centers. In California, formal training and licensure are required to become a certified phlebotomist.
